Background

Standard Bilingual Higher Institute for Business Studies (SBHIBS) is a newly created University Institution created to transform the Cameroon Training landscape.

The idea of this contemporary institution was born by its promoter Mr. Christopher AWUNGJIA, a Chartered Accountant and an International Business Consultant who is the Managing Partner of ACN & Co Certified Public Accountants and Registered Auditors (ACN & Co CPARA).

The Chartered University Institute as it is also called is born from the experience we have got from the training we are already giving to young Cameroonians. In our vocational training centre, we offer the following training programs:

  • Certificate programs (Chartered Accountants); ACCA – UK, ICAN – Nigeria, CPA – US, Kenya. 
  • Practical Accounting Training (The bridge): Taking freshmen from University and giving them the necessary skills to enable them to obtain gainful employment. This has proven to be very effective. 
  • Corporate Executive Training for entrepreneurs and Business executives.

We will operate The School of Business and a professional University to deliver both theory and practice of HND, BSc, MSc and MBA

Role of the Dean

The Dean is a member of the University senior management team with a shared responsibility for promoting and achieving the University goals set out in its Strategic Plan.

Within the Faculties, his role is to provide the Faculties with academic leadership, to encourage excellence in teaching and research, to represent the Faculties to the University, to promote the development of the Faculties and of its staff and to manage its activities through the most effective and cost-efficient use of resources, within the framework of the University Strategic Plan and policies.

The Dean has executive role and is responsible for the proper conduct of the Faculties in accordance with the University’s rules and regulations. He/she reports directly to the directors of University, who will hold him/her accountable to this role.

Job Description.

  • Provides academic and professional leadership to the Faculties.
  • Ensures that the programmes offered by the Faculties are promptly completed and evaluated
  • Ensures that the programmes offered are of high quality and always meet the standards of professional institutions, evolutions of accreditation bodies. Standard Bilingual Higher Institute of Business Studies
  • Develops and maintains links with relevant accreditation authorities within and outside Cameroon.
  • Ensures that the programmes within the Faculties are relevant to the industry, and meet the relevant human resource needs of the country.
  • Ensures that all programmes within the Faculties are regularly revised and externally reviewed within the provisions of the regulations of the University.
  • Ensures that a vibrant research, publishing and consultancy culture is developed in the Faculties, and mentor staff in research, publishing and consultancy.
  • Directs and coordinates the activities of the heads of academic sections that fall within the Faculties.
  • Leads and be responsible for the preparation and approval of the Faculty annual budgets. Ensures that all sections and staff of the Faculties operate within the policy framework of the University.
  • Advises the Director of the University and the Advisory Board on academic, administrative and financial issues relating to the Faculties and/or affecting the Faculties and the University.
  • Undertakes any related responsibility assigned by the Director of the University to further the work and welfare of the Faculties and the University.

Skills and attributes necessary in a Dean include:

  • Demonstrated academic leadership.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to high performance, meeting targets, and the effective management of the Faculties.
  • Sound knowledge of the tertiary educational sector and the ability to raise the profile of the Faculties within the tertiary education sector. 
  • Strong advocate of the Faculties and its constituents.
  • A solid record of performance in teaching, research and publication.
  • Outstanding record of research leadership.
  • Excellent strategic vision and ability to manage operations of the Faculties with a focus on its immediate, medium and long term development plans for the institution.
  • Demonstrated management experience at a comparable level in higher education institutions.
  • Ability and commitment to working with a new team to build a new university.

Minimum Qualifications Requirements:

The Dean must be an academic leader with a commensurate record in research/publication, teaching, and management. He/she must be able to demonstrate within a higher education environment effective personnel, entrepreneurial, management and financial skills; excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, and understanding ability to implement equal opportunity principles.

The successful candidates should have a master Degree (MSc) or its equivalent in an area relevant to the School, and more than 5 years of academic teaching and research/publishing experience, or equivalent combination of education and commercial experience of at least 5 years. In exceptional cases, the University shall consider applicants with lower academic qualifications but with excellent hands-on commercial/research experience in any of the areas which fall under the ambit of the School.

Terms and Conditions

The position of Dean is for two (2) years trial period with an employment contract. The contract is renewable subject to good performance.
